The school in the Sullivan district, east of Billings, will open today
with Miss Russell as teacher. The school has been closed for several months on account of the building having been destroyed by fire. A new building has been erected through the assistance of the patrons and friends in Billings. Desks were purchased last week of the Billings school district.

TWELVE WANT TO TEACH
Result of examination for instructors will probably be known this week preparing for eighth grade examinations.
The result of the examination for teachers held recently in the office of County Superintendent Mrs. Strang, instruction by the county board of educational examiners will probably be known this week. The work of correcting the papers of the 12 applicants who took the examination is now in progress. The board, which is composed of
County superintendent Mrs. Strang, H. M. Brayton and Prof. Longley of Laurel, has not yet decided when to hold the examinations for eighth grade certificates for pupils who may wish to enter a High school, but it will probably be held May 16 and 17. The state board of education has given the board of examiners the option of holding them then or on June 6 and 7.
As nearly all of the schools in the county close this month, it is more than likely they will be held the earlier dates. Two schools in the county have closed already for the term. They are the Elysian school, Mrs. Flora B. Dodd, teacher, and the Sullivan school, David E. Short ,teacher. The former is four miles west of Billings and the latter six miles east. The eighth grade examinations are to be held in accordance with the following resolution, adopted by the state board of education: "Resolved, that several county board of educational examiners be authorized to hold eighth grade examinations in their respective counties as provided in House Bill 188, tenth legislative assembly, for the purpose of granting eighth grade pupils who show themselves proficient certificates to enter accredited High schools. Such examinations to be optional with the local school authorities until Jan. 1,1908. After that date, all pupils desiring to enter accredited High schools regularly from the eighth grade shall hold certificates granted by the county board of educational examiners.
The questions for these examinations shall be prepared by the state superintendent and the examinations shall be held under the rules and regulations prescribed by him. The minimum for passing in any one branch shall be 65 per cent, with an average of 75 per cent in all branches. "Certificates must be signed by at least two members of the board, whether teachers' certificates, or
eighth grade certificates”.
