MCAS Tool Guide
Can students use their creativity to design a powerful presentation using Photopea and Google Slides to learn about tools used in construction?
Students will learn the following:
how to create elements for a presentation using various software
to create and insert JPG, PNG files for presentation
learn the purpose of certain tools for the 8th grade MCAS
how to use hyperlinks and action buttons
Overview:
Create two backgrounds in Photopea and save them as PSD files in order to save all of your layers. You will then export them as JPGs so you can insert them into the presentation. These will be the backgrounds for the entire presentation. The first background is the Title Card. The second background is used for all the other slides in the presentation. The second, generic background must be designed so small 18 point text can be seen on it.
The second slide will be the Table of Contents. Use will use Action Buttons to navigate through the Google Slides. (Remember the Wellness Project from 6th grade)
Use Photoshop to cut out all the tools and save them as PNG files. These will then be inserted (not opened) into PowerPoint.
Use the List of Tools as your guideline.
Make sure you have transitions between all the slides.
Finally, don't forget to answer the questions. The question slide will be your last slide.
You will create a Google Presentation about tools and construction from the List of Tools link below. You will need to use your Photopea and design skills to create some elements for your PowerPoint presentation.
Title Card and Background
You will create a 1000 pixel wide by 800 pixel tall Title Card for your first slide. Once finished, save this as a JPEG and insert it as the first slide.
Next, create a generic background used for the rest of the slides in the presentation. Make sure this background will allow you see any size text or pictures once it is added as a background.
In the Google Slides, create a Table of Contents page and use Action Buttons to navigate through the presentation. If you forget how to create an Action button, use Google to find out to make an Action button or link in Google Slides.
Next cut out all the tool listed from the List of Tool found below. Use the Magic Wand Tool. Adjust your tolerance, the default is 10. The larger the number, the more pixels will be selected. Once you have the checkered background, except for the tool you need to export the tool as a PNG file, NOT a JPG. It will export to your downloads folder so you need to find it there.
Insert all the elements into your presentation and give a one to two sentence description about what the tool is used for.
