SPECIAL NOTES FOR SENIORS AS YOU CONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS:

Make sure you compare the financial aid letters from the schools to which you have been admitted.  The final cost, including affordability & amount of debt incurred, should be a huge consideration in your final selection of college.  It is highly recommended that you complete the FAFSA if you want to be considered for any need-based assistance. The FAFSA application is still open for your freshman academic school year at FAFSA.gov

Financial Aid offers cannot be "bartered" or used to convince other schools to offer more aid.  Consideration for appeals is controlled by strict guidelines such as loss of income, medical costs, change in family situation, etc.   Contact the college financial aid office for guidance on appealing the financial aid letter.

Reminder:  Your local California community colleges offer FREE tuition to all students completing the FAFSA regardless of income!!!!

Check College & Career, Fastweb, Cappex, Scholarships.com, Sallie Mae, etc.

**Waitlist recommendations:

1)  If you have been waitlisted, then you must complete the respective college email/form & confirm that either YES, you want to be on the waitlist, or NO, you do NOT want to be on the waitlist.

2)  If you decide to remain on the waitlist, then you need to forge ahead and make a deposit at your 2nd choice school by their respective deadline (as a backup).  If you end up getting accepted at your #1 choice waitlisted school, you will be able to drop the 2nd school (non-refundable deposit) and make your commitment & deposit at the 1st choice school.

3)  The university may ask for additional documentation if you are waitlisted.  In general, the sending of unsolicited, extraneous email appeals, additional recommendation letters, etc. to the waitlist college will not be considered.  Additional information is only requested and considered if there has been a significant life incident:  loss of parent income, student health issues, etc.

4)  Waitlist decisions may occur as late as July 1.

Colleges offer admission to the waitlist AFTER they have received the majority of their commitments, so they can assess space available.   For this reason, students should make sure to commit to their 2nd choice schools (as backups).

5)  Waitlist numbers always vary with schools.  However, generally speaking, the percentage of students admitted from the waitlist is very low.
