Some jottings of ideas for non-cyclists so that we can spend time together without too much effort on logistics, based on discussions with Julie, feedback from Marie and the assumption that there will be no driving involved (all public transport).
This evening is the Florence Festa della Rificolona, definitely worth a look! The route of the lantern parade and the end point are both within walking distance of the hotel.
A day to explore the delights of Firenze. Perhaps buy the makings of a picnic at the central markets to enjoy at the Boboli Gardens?
A day trip to Lucca. Join us on the train from Firenze but get off at Lucca, explore the town and have lunch with the cyclists. Then some time after lunch, take a taxi to Montecarlo or take the train to Altopascio where the people from the hotel will collect you.
Take the train from Montecarlo (Altopascio) to Firenze at your leisure. The cyclists will make it to Firenze after lunch.
Leave Florence as late as you like for Greve in Chianti by Firenze taxi (around €50).
Lovely little town, great wine festival! Everything in walking distance.
Continue to enjoy the festival and then head over to Arezzo by taxi (+390575382626, Marco at Taxi Arezzo around €120+10%).
Take Arezzo taxi to Sansepolcro (+390575382626, Marco at Taxi Arezzo around €60). The festival in Sansepolcro looks like a hoot.
We might side trip to Anghiari for lunch. It is only a few kilometres.
Taxi to Longiano via Novafeltria to drop off cyclists' luggage (+39 0541 920817, Davide Biordi from Hotel Magda at Novafeltria, around €140).
Explore Longiano. It might be possible to take a day trip to Monteleone if you want. The cyclists will be coming through there about lunch time.
Down to Rimini by taxi (+39 0541 920817, Davide Biordi from Hotel Magda at Novafeltria, around €50) and enjoy the beach. The cyclists will be there by lunch time and a swim is on the cards. In the afternoon we will all return to Firenze by train.
