Today is just a short ride of around twenty six kilometres down to Rimini, see the Adriatic (or even go for a swim) then the train ride of just over two hours to Firenze via Bologna. Any "Regional" train will do!
With less than an hour's riding we won't rush to leave Longiano, time for a leisurely breakfast, some photos or whatever. For students of history, we will cross Fiume Rubicone very close to the place where Big Julie declared his die cast.
The route into Rimini is quite pleasant, following fairly quiet roads down to Santangelo Di Romana soon after which we join the Via Marecchia cycle path which takes us right into Rimini. We had been at the other end of this cycle path at Novafeltria. The only "climb" of the day is about 15m!
The big decision is which of the beach "resorts" to use... ideally one where we can secure the bikes, get changed, shower etc. The beach is only 200m from the train station. Do we want to stay in Rimini for lunch? We could do that, or go back to Firenze or even break our journey in Bologna or Faenza. That means dealing with luggage at Bologna although there is luggage storage at the station there.
A complicating factor is whether we have the bikes in bags. If not we are limited to the regional trains. For more detail see the blog entry.
Back in Firenze.
