Drumline Auditions

The Drumline/Percussion section has a long standing tradition of excellence and we plan to continue that tradition. To audition to be in the percussion section you must demonstrate basic musician skills such as reading music and the ability to keep a steady tempo. For the 2020 season, you will practice rudiments as well as two cadences, and then make a VIDEO recording of you playing the part on a drum or practice pad.

As of April 26, 2021, the plan is to march a full line - 2 snares, 2 tenors, 5 basses, 1 cymbal. Depending on number of players that audition, that number may need to be changed.

Rudiments

There are 40 basic rudiments all percussionists need to master. Rudiments, as well as instructional videos on how to play them, can be found HERE.

You will need pick 4 of the following to demonstrate:

  • Double Stroke Roll

  • Five Stroke Roll

  • Single Paradiddle

  • Pataflafla

  • Triple Ratamacue

Rudiments should be played Slow<Fast>Slow - slowly speeding up and slowing down.

Please record each element in its own file. You will need to create a google folder and share the folder with Mr. Evans. Click "Notify Recipient" when you share the folder. Put all off your videos in that folder. Make sure Mr. Evans has viewing permission. You need to submit your folder with Mr. Evans by June 1.

Please feel free to email Mr. Evans with any questions.
