Honor Bands

This page contains information regarding Honor Bands at the County, District, and State levels. All Honor Bands are yearly events that students have the opportunity to audition for each year. The bands consist of some of the best high school band students from schools in Iredell County, Northwest District, and North Carolina, respectfully. Band directors from around the county (district/state) will judge the blind auditions to decide who to accept into the band for that year. Each clinic is a multi-day event during school. They will play challenging music, under the direction of a guest conductor, with a talented group of kids and perform a concert the next day. This is a great opportunity for all students.

Students attend an audition and perform a given solo, scales, and a sight reading piece. We base all audition information on the requirements for All-State Honor Band. The District and County levels do not require students to play the entire solo, but only a small section. The cuts have been marked. There is a link below for recordings and master classes for each instrument, as well as tips to best perform the solo.
