Assessment and Testing:
The state of Minnesota uses the WIDA system of tests to inform educational decisions about students' English language proficiency and level of service. Students are tested using the WIDA Online Screener for initial placement purposes.
Annually, ELL students will take the WIDA-ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State). The ACCESS test measures the student's language development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. All students receiving support through the ELL Program will take the WIDA-ACCESS test.
ELL students who have been exited from the program do not take the WIDA-ACCESS test.
For more information about WIDA please follow the link below.
Additional Assessment Measures:
Students in the ELL Program take the same tests as their peers. ELL students receive ongoing assessments to ensure progress and determine level of service or if the student is ready to be exited from the ELL Program. The following district assessment measures are taken into consideration in conjunction with WIDA test scores, teacher, student, and parent input.
