Violin - The violin is the highest-sounding instrument in the orchestra. This instrument almost always has the main melody.

Cello - The cello is a bigger and lower-sounding instrument. The cello is played sitting down and switches often between the melody and harmony parts.

Viola - The viola is a middle-sounding instrument. It looks and sounds very similar to the violin with fewer high notes and more lower notes. This instrument often plays the harmony part.
