Engineer's Notebook

THE ENGINEERING NOTEBOOK

The Engineering Notebook is folder/binder which students keep all their bellwork, sketching, handouts, and notes. It is used to keep all course paperwork together, organized, and available for assessment. Regular Minor assessments will be taken. A Major assessment will also be taken. The preferred notebook should be a 1/2 to 1-inch "Presentation" 3-ring hard binder (any color) with pockets, five dividers, college rule paper, and 1/4" quadrille graph paper. Students are encouraged to keep their GTT notebook for future classes of GTT.

IMPORTANT!!!: Do not put any personal phone numbers or home address on anything!

YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Create a Cover Page, Title Page, and Table of Contents in freehand UPPERCASE lettering on separate sheets of lined or graph paper;

  2. All text is to be in pencil, arranged horizontally, and in PORTRAIT format;

  3. Text can be up to 3 cubes in height with minimum spacing of one row.

  4. Page protectors may be used. Some pages may need to be reinforced.

o SECTION I - BELLWORK lined and graph paper – basic math, lettering, measurement, technical sketching, question responses, etc.

o SECTION 2 - NOTES lined paper - ocabulary, class notes, record ideas as you brainstorm and as you investigate ideas, etc.

o SECTION 3 - TECHNICAL SKETCHING 2D & 3D graph paper - Record your sketches and designs.

o SECTION 4 - RESEARCH lined paper - Record your research and what resources (use for MiniQuests, library, textbook chapter work, sources, websites, etc.)

o SECTION 5 - JOURNAL ENTRY lined paper - dated for each class period: This is where students will record class and individual activities in GTT. This is not personal diary, but an account of the class activities. Each student will be expected to write at least two statements: 1)The class activity for that day, 2) at least one “I” statement describing something you designed, built, drew, viewed, created, or learned.
