On October 15, 2013, the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) voted unanimously to approve a proposal that adds up to 400 MW of wind energy to its resource mix, allowing it to generate almost 30% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2016. The new wind energy will come from the Grande Prairie wind farm in Holt County, which represents a $700 million investment in the area, and will create local short and long-term jobs. "OPPD’s new wind farm is a 'win-wind' situation. It is a boost to the Nebraska economy, it is homegrown energy, it will decrease air pollution which will help to make our community healthier and it will set a higher standard for other public power districts," said David E.
