TRIP FAQ

Q: Where are we going this year?

A: Each year's destination is determined early in the school year, or at the end of the previous year. We have to alternate in-state/out-of-state. Odd number graduating classes are out-of-state years.

Q: Is the trip mandatory?

A: No. But, as they say: "The more, the merrier!"

Q: How much does the trip cost?

A: This will depend on where we are going, how long we are staying, and what we do. We do get group discounts for the tickets and hotel costs, so that helps to keep overall costs down. Usually trips run about $150/day per student - but that is only a ballpark figure. Official price will be made available when it is known.

Q: Are there any fundraisers?

A: Yes! Depending on scheduling, we will have one fundraiser each semester, and most (if not all) of the money earned by each student can be used for the trip.

Q: Where will we stay?

A: We have had the good fortune to have great hotels for the last many trips. While I won't be able to tell you for sure until closer to trip time, rest assured that we will be in a clean, safe, and modern hotel. They will have pillows, blankets, TVs, towels, wash cloths...probably free WiFi...continental breakfast...and yes, probably an indoor pool. Specifics will be given on a trip-by-trip basis after we are booked.

Q: What should I pack?

A: Clothing and toiletries; phone/phone charger; school work; instrument and music, books/entertainment for travel time. These are basics. Where and when we go will also determine what to bring.

Q: What about medications?

A: Medications are an important thing to remember. Depending on the nature of the medication, we have options. If your child is trustworthy and comfortable with carrying the medication, that is fine with me - I will check up to make sure all is well! If you would prefer the teacher (or one of the chaperones) carry the meds, that is fine too. It is up to you.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Comfortable shoes and socks are a must - we walk a lot! Generally, we will need your normal 'walking around' clothes for the mornings/afternoons and pajamas for the hotel. We try to have a symphony experience on each trip, so at least 1 set of 'fancy clothes' will be a must. (Slacks for guys/girls with a collared, button-down top...girls could always do nice dresses, too.) Our activities on the trip will help determine how much of everything we will need.

Q: How much money should I take?

A: Usually our trips include breakfast and dinner. We have had trips where lunch was included, not included, and some were included. It depends on the specific trip. A good rule of thumb is to budget $10-15 per meal that is not covered by the trip cost. Souvenir money is up to you!
