Chris Khoury graduated from Yale College, Duke Medical School, and University of Colorado Psychiatric Residency, and has had a private practice in adult psychiatry in Escondido since 1979. He is married and has two adult children. His long standing love and appreciation for the San Diego environment intensified during his docent training for the San Dieguito River Park in 1994. He has been on the Board of Directors of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy since 1997 and served as president from 1999-2002. As the Land Acquisition Chair for the Conservancy, he led the Conservancy’s efforts in many successful land acquisitions, including the Santa Ysabel East and West Preserves, parcels on Volcan Mountain, Corral Mountain, Bernardo Mountain, and Lake Sutherland East.
In 2002, he was the guide in the Del Mar TV Foundation video “A Walk in the Park”. This introduction to the San Dieguito River Valley has entertained channel-surfing insomniacs for years.
With his wife, Linda Corey, he initiated the Exploring Our Sense of Place program in the San Dieguito River Park, which is designed to nourish the hearts and minds of the participants in a year-long series of presentations and hikes.
For his environmental contributions, he has been recognized by the State of California, County of San Diego, the Cities of San Diego and Escondido, and the San Dieguito River Park. In 2013, the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancyrecognized him for his many contributions over the last 20 years with their Lifetime Appreciation Award.
