US direct loans for American students
At ESSEC, all Federal and Private US loans are handled by the Office of the Registrar.
Please note applications for 2024/25 can be submitted from June 1st, 2024
You may borrow up to the Cost of Attendance and no more, regardless of the source of the borrowing/funding, private loan or direct loan.
The Cost of Attendance is set by the school but may be adjusted to reflect your specific needs but keeping within the parameters set by the school.
Two types of loans are available to you, Federal (Stafford) loans now called Direct Lending, and private loans.
The Cost of Attendance is set for the academic year in which you are registered.
Applications for each new academic cycle can be submitted from June 1st onwards.

Federal Stafford loan/Direct Lending
There is an entitlement to Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans which have fixed limits depending on whether the student is dependent, independent or postgraduate. These may be topped up to the full cost of attendance with a PLUS loan which is not an entitlement, but is subject to credit checking and may be declined by the US Department of Education.
* Subsidized Loans for graduate students have become unavailable since July 1st, 2012.
The US Department of Education charge an origination fee on all loans and this is deducted from each disbursement. For more detailed information, see the Education Department's Student Aid website
