Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Multiple avenues of cooling were discussed, active cooling, passive cooling, cooling with chemicals or different kinds of ice, cooling though conduction, cooling though convection. many different models where generated and research was done on already available models.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
We where able to define the project, and the parameters that our sponsor prioritized. This helped us define the necessary functional parameters that our device needed to be able to accomplish.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Philip- Make a general model for our system in Matlab to have a rough idea of our system parameters. Also update the web page
Carlos- look in to refrigeration cycles used in mini-fridges to see if any are compatible with what we need. Call companies that manufacture fridges to get more detail on the coolant used, and heat transfer rate of the system.
Alex- look in to a prototype vest we can use initially to 'hit the ground running', so we can run tests and have a good reference for our final vest. specifically, the vest should be able to hole coolant.
Nathan- look in to battery options and possible ways we can power our refrigerator and fan effectively and safely
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Make sure to compare different models for the design. figure out if air cooled or coolant cooled is more effective and if a refrigeration cycle is even necessary.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Improve our slides. Try to define our project as quickly as possible since the exact cooling method was undefined.
Risks and Areas of Concern (i.e. show stoppers)
ability to come up with something original/ consumer based.
a too big/ bulky battery is required for a short cooling time (duration)
the refrigeration cycle is not strong enough to cool a large body.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
heat transfer rate to power input of a well built refrigeration cycle
Schedule
dissect a mini-fridge to analyze the heat transfer rate output. use this in Matlab to simulate the capability of our system.
