Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
CAD model of the gyroscope has been updated
parts for precessing frame and base have been ordered, but haven't arrived yet
more bearings have been ordered for nutating frame and gyrowheel
decided on and orderedmotor parts, will initially used motors provided in lab to test before ordering one
decided on support for base and ordered necessary parts
drilled holes in nutating frame
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Aki - conducted more in-depth gyroscope analysis for Prasad
Everyone - decide on support for gyroscope and order along with brackets
Cross - ordered necessary parts
Steven - completed and uploaded and updated draft of report to website
Steven - updated gyroscope dynamics portion of website
Steven - met in person with representative at Motion Industries for in-depth discussion of bearings and shaft collars; ordered necessary bearings and shaft collars
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.

Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
4/23/18 in person:
recommended using flexible shaft collar with bearings - we have decided on and ordered shaft collars
Recommended Misumi or Mcmaster Carr for order parts - met in person at Motion IndustriesÂ
How will motor be powered? - order a battery pack
Recommended creating a figure of boomerang and gyroscope side by side with similar annotations - we will work on this and incorporate it into our next presentation
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
none
Risks and Areas of Concern
Shaft collars have been ordered but might not come in time to build a prototype before Proof of Concept Presentations in Week 6
Other parts might not arrive until later in the week too, meaning there will be limited opportunity to work in the machine shop
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Talked with Landon at Motion Industries about bearings and shaft collars. He was very helpful, could be useful to contact him again in the future
