156A Week 10
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
created a rough design of the model
organized individual and group objectives
created outline of project schedule and assigned individual assignments
Begin to consider possible component options and materials.
Purchase materials this week
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Project team has gathered field data from boomeranging with Project Sponsor
Pictures and videos of boomerang flight were taken
Initial gyroscope design and CAD
Initial bill of materials created
Divided component analysis topics among the team members
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Complete risk reduction - presentation next Tuesday
Update CAD models: include handle on base, determine dimensions of wheels on base of gyroscope
Decide on final bill of materials
Finish individual component analysis
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor proposed project team to research optimal weight distribution of spinning wheels for optimized gyroscope function
Figuring out the radius of steering/curvature of the base platform - need maximum diameter of turning circle to be 10m
Must calculate corresponding angle of wheels to achieve desired diameter of turning radius
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Instructor asked project team to confirm the teardrop shaped trajectory of boomerang.
Project team threw boomerangs of varying sizes and recorded trajectory to confirm general teardrop path of boomerang flight
Further analysis was unable to be completed due to the complexity of this field of study which is far beyond the scope of this gyroscope project
Instructor proposed the greatest project risk to be that our gyroscope wouldn’t properly work/educate on boomerang flight trajectory
Instructor proposed distribution of individual component analysis:
Sensors - Cross
Motors - Aki
Gyroscope dynamics - KC
Boomerang dynamics - Steven
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
none

Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
We have not spent any money yet.
Planning to spend about $40 on wheels.
We have the complete $1000 and $600 machine shop expense left.
Progress on Report and Webpage
Report has not been started
Risk Reduction Created a template and began to make our website.
Report has not been started, Risk Reduction in progress for presentation next week
