156B Week 8

Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.

    • Need to test Camera with mounts.

    • We have access to a shaker table and will meet with Chris Cassidy for an overview.

    • Fabrication of the Housing

      • Cutting

      • Welding

      • Machining

    • Test of camera in housing by shoving into sand.

      • Need to test camera on a computer, ensure software will not be a problem

Accomplishments from Previous Week

    • Ordered: spring steel, anti-fog window cleaner............................................................................Vicki

    • Checked with JV for arrival of components..................................................................................Curtis

    • Tested the camera....................................................................................................................Juan and Jonathan

      • Placed the camera in a cardboard box to find lighting needed, best focal length, and minimum mirror size requirements

      • Tinkered with the camera software to better understand the parameters of the camera

    • Designed a mount for the mirror.................................................................................................Curtis

    • Created an aluminum window attachment to check if it will successfully hold the camera...............Juan

    • Finalized dimensions of housing components:

      • Mounts: dimensions of spring steel..................................................................................Vicki

      • Housing shell dimensions................................................................................................Juan

      • Housing lid dimensions....................................................................................................Curtis

      • Distance between window and camera dimensions.............................................................Jonathan

    • Find initial droop of camera and analyze vibrations with this as the equilibrium point.........................Vicki

    • Complete final draft presentation..................................................................................................All

    • Edit first draft of final report..........................................................................................................All

Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.

Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)

    • Check if deviation caused by the wedge will be an issue

      • emailed professor Ford and Elgamal

      • Created a second design of a wedged tip that eliminates deviation

    • Test lighting

      • Tested the lighting needed for the camera to obtain a good image

    • Find out where to place the camera

      • Experimentally found the best position for the camera

    • Test the camera software

      • Tested and better understood Python 4 Software

      • Took a video for Dr. Oiler to see and check if the image is good enough

Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)

    • Create a CAD model of the final design (with everything put together)

    • Test the camera software

      • Tested and better understood Python 4 Software

    • Finalize placement of components

    • Make sure that there is enough lighting for the camera to take images

      • Emailed Professor Ford with questions about optics issues
