156A Week 9

Week 1

Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.

  • Created solidworks model of a couple housing shapes to analyze the force distribution and buckling

of the model.

· Estimated the force needed to penetrate the sediment

o Used uncompact sand as a substitute for the sediment

Accomplishments from Previous Week

  • Created a Gantt chart for the next three weeks (until 3/21/15)

  • Attended our kickoff meeting with our sponsor, Jonathon Oiler

Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.

  • Create more different housing structures to see what’s the optimal shape

  • Research material for housing

  • Obtain a pressure chamber

  • Order O-rings

Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments

  • Call and ask about the vibrocorer

    • Which direction do the vibrations go

  • Create several more housing shapes

  • Verify the force applied to the housing from pushing the housing into the sediment

Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments

  • Need to find out how the housing was going to be deployed

    • Asked Dr.Oiler about how it was deployed

  • Look at previous projects to get ideas/references about how to waterproof our housing

    • Looked at the old website and found an old Spawar project of a sediment sampler

Risks and Areas of Concern

  • Waterproof the housing using O-rings or a gasket/sealant

  • Analyze buckling

Resources or Information Required but not Available

  • How the vibrocorer works

    • What is the vibration frequency, amplitude, etc.

    • How will the housing attach to the vibrocorer

Schedule

  • Describe upcoming milestone

  • Update Gantt chart

Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)

  • Spent: $0

  • Remaining: $1500
