156B Week 6
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Need mock up testing for lighting
Use current camera and cardboard mock up of the housing
Test in a dark room to simulate amount of light at depth
Need to test Camera with mounts.
Fabrication of the Housing
Welding
Machining
Test of camera in housing by shoving into sand.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Ordered/purchased
subconn wetmate
Sapphire window
Redesign for housing, open on top, easier tip replacement- Curtis
Complete CAD assembly for all components, including adapter to 4 in round pipe- Juan
Complete a first draft of the final report- all
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Order/purchase
lighting- Jonathan
100 ft waterproof Ethernet cable- Curtis
Square tube or thick sheet to weld- Juan
Review with Tom about welding and fabrication methods for housing- Vicki
Ask Nick Busan in Structural Engineering for access to a shaker table- Curtis

meeting, Monday 4/27/15 12:30 pm
Determine the tip angle and find how much the system will be deviated due to the shearing force, show deviation as a function of tip angle.
we will make a matlab code to define deviation as a result of the expected force, mass, and angle of the tip.
Use a double o-ring for an extra safety factor on all seals.
We will add another o-ring to the lid.
Consider opening the housing on top instead of the bottom.
Curtis will provide an alternate design model
Consider design of the adapter to reduce risk of failure, look at stress concentration on bolts
Clarify that the vibra-core system is using an open un-obstructed pipe to ensure access for the Ethernet cable
Go ahead and buy the sapphire
Consult with instructor about buying or making the flexure mounts.
Camera, find out how much light is needed, depend on f-stop, sensor quality/size, shutter speed.
Look at Isosensitivity and how this might affect our camera
Make a list of camera options with pros and cons (resolution is more important)
Contact instructor to ensure solid or hollow tip ask about threading and thickness of steel.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Presentation comments/questions on Monday 4/27/15 4pm
Make the flexures out of flex-steel
Talk to Nick Busan about getting access to a shaker table.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Fabrication time and welding of the housing
Testing of the complete design
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Update Gantt chart.
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
amount remaining-$854.69
amount spent- $675.31
Progress on Report and Webpage
First draft of the report is completed, we need to add to sections in the testing and results sections.
Conclusion needs to be more substantial
