ASSIGNMENT: Presentation of Context and Demonstration of Performance convention: Early Draft of Criterion A
TASKS:
Create a 12-15 minute presentation that has these parts:
1-2 minutes of your context research with IN-TEXT citing as you speak
1-2 minutes discussing the conventions of the tradition, especially the one(s) you choose as your research focus. **Make sure you discuss the CONTEXT of the convention within the tradition - WHY is this convention a convention for this tradition: what is it's purpose within the performance tradition? how and why is it used?
1-2 minutes explaining how you explored the convention - using pictures and videos from your explorations and talking about what your challenges and successes were and why these were challenges and successes (including what you learned through the explorations).
1-3 minutes explaining how and why you applied the convention to your moment - this should include demonstrating your performance convention in a walk-through of your Moment of Theatre (How and why did you choose your Moment of Theatre? How are you going to apply your CONVENTION in your moment? Walk through this BEFORE you do the fluid performance of the Moment.)
1-2 minutes performing your convention fluidly as a Moment of Theatre
1-2 minutes discussing the impact doing this research project has had on you as a performer and learner. **Make links to your learning in your WTRP & other learning you have had as a performer
1-2 minutes comparing your convention with another performance practice that you already know
Presentation must have:
power point
works cited slide at end of power point
practical demonstration of ONE performance convention used in a moment of theater (plus everything else asked for in the presentation rubrics and above: context, explorations, reflection as student & learner, comparison to a practice, etc.)

FROM THE IB GUIDE:
Structuring the presentation
The presentation may be up to 15 minutes in length. It should demonstrate the research findings of:
the world theatre tradition;
the cultural and/or theoretical context through which the world theatre tradition and the selected convention developed and the impact this has had on how and why it is performed;
the student’s physical and practical explorations into the performance convention from that theatre tradition;
the student’s exploration and analysis of the application of their learning to the staging of a moment of a moment of theatre;
the student’s reflection on their learning and their development as a performer, a comparison and connection between the performance convention examined and one other performance practice.
Students may wish to adapt and adopt the following structure
This guidance, which outlines a possible structure for presenting the work rather than a process through which to approach the task, is neither prescriptive nor restrictive, as students should feel free to cover each section in an order preferable to their needs and requirements.
The world theatre tradition and its cultural and/or theoretical context
The performance convention and the process of the physical and practical explorations
The performance convention and the process of applying this to a moment of theatre
Demonstration and explanation of the convention applied to a moment of theatre
The impact of this study on me as a learner and connections and comparisons between performance practice
Formal requirements of this task
Each student submits for assessment:
a continuous, unedited video recording of the live presentation (15 minutes maximum) which presents:
the student’s research of the selected world theatre tradition and its cultural and/or theoretical context
the student’s practical and physical explorations of one performance convention selected from the world theatre tradition
the student’s explanation and physical demonstration of how they might apply their research to the staging of a moment of theatre
the student’s analysis of the impact of this study on them as a learner and performer
an explanation of how the selected performance convention compares and connects to one other performance practice
a list of all sources cited and any additional resources used by the student during the presentation which are not clearly seen within the video recording. Your works cited is your last slide on your power point. You will submit a .pdf of your full powerpoint presentation for this assessment as well as the video of your full presentation.
