Arrival & Dismissal

Bus Transportation

Bus transportation is provided for students in grades K-5. Bus routes and schedules  will be emailed to parents/guardians at the end of August and are published in the Dover-Sherborn Hometown Weekly the week before school opens and on the school website. Students are let off the buses at 7:35 a.m. With the exception of Kindergarten students, a parent/guardian is not required to be present at the bus stop for a student to exit the bus. Parents/Guardians with questions about bus policies or schedules should contact the school office.

Students will be marked Tardy if they arrive after 7:50

Parent/Guardian Drop-off

Parents/Guardians driving students to school should drop off at the designated drop off/pick up zone. Parents/Guardians who need to go inside the school are asked to park in the parking lot.

Note: There is no parking on the concrete bus pad located directly in front of the school either before school (7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.) or near dismissal (1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.). This pad is reserved for buses at those times.

Parent/Guardian Pick-up

Parents/Guardians, or other authorized adults, picking up children at school must park vehicles in designated parking areas.  Picking up a child at the regular dismissal time 2:15pm.... wait by the cafeteria for dismissal and sign the dismissal log with proper identification.

Walking or Bicycle Transportation

Students may walk or ride bicycles to school with written parent/guardian permission. Upon arrival to school, students should park and lock their bike to the bike rack. Bicycles may not be used during the school day, including recess. At dismissal, students who are biking or walking, must wait for the buses to leave the driveway before leaving the school.

Change in Dismissal Arrangements

Please review with your child their plan for the day.  A note is required if there is any change to routine... riding the bus is the default.  A Blanket note is accepted (ie, Pick up until further notice or date specified). Please send  a signed note with your child in the morning so that teachers can complete all paperwork for attendance.   A written signed request to change a child’s dismissal plans MUST be made by noon.   PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TEACHERS......they are not guaranteed to check email during the school day.  Only  an Emergency change of dismissal can be emailed to the office ;   Karen Anzivino anzivinok@doversherborn.org or Kelly O'Donnell  odonnellk@doversherborn.org .

Early Dismissal

Early Dismissal cutoff is 1:30 pm.  ( 10:30 on Early Release Days)

If your child is to be dismissed early from school, you must send a note to school on the day of the dismissal. In the note, indicate the reason for early dismissal and the dismissal time. Unless otherwise indicated, a parent/guardian must appear at the school office to pick up the child.  In certain cases, office personnel may request identification from the person coming for the child.  Please note: Your child will not be allowed to leave the office without an adult.

Delayed Start of School Day or Cancellation

In the event of bad weather, school may start late or be cancelled. When school is delayed due to inclement weather, parents/guardians are notified via a Connect-Ed phone call placed by the Superintendent of Schools.

We also use the following radio/television stations to post information about school cancellations, delays, and early releases: WKOX (1200 AM), WBZ (1030 AM), WHDH (850AM), WRKO (680 AM), WBZ/Channel 4, WCVB TV/Channel 5, WRKO/Channel 7, WFXT/FOX, WBUR (website only)

Emergency Dismissal Plans

When school is dismissed early due to unforeseen circumstances, such as inclement weather, parents/guardians are notified via the automated emergency phone system (reverse 911) that all students will be riding the bus and pick up notes will be voided. Because of child care concerns, bus passes will be honored in the event of an emergency dismissal. DEDA - extended day - will be cancelled. Parents/guardians have been asked to make sure that their child knows what to do or where to go in the event of an emergency.
