Things to think about - How will it be used?
Is it be used for a project or personal use only?
Will it be a serif, a san-serif, script or headline font?
Will it be based on a writing implement or be more geometric?
Will your design be a text face, comfortable at small sizes and suitable for long documents, or will it be a display face with an imaginative style, that works better a larger size?
Is there a problem you might solve? How might your typeface fit into a landscape alongside similar designs? What makes it unique?
Design Process:
Step 1: Brainstorm / Mindmap
Step 2: Draw out your fonts individual letters (starting with your name) using a pen, marker or pencil (remember the each device looks/feels different). If you choose you can also use a graphic software to outline your font or draw directly using birdfont
Step 3: Using the Birdfont Software digitize and construct your font
Step 4. Export your font as a TTF file and start using it!
