Creating a high-score board:
INVESTIGATE:
Think back at the different books and stories you have read this year. These can be stories you have read as part of your English class or independently. Choose one of these books / short stories .
Discuss one of the conflicts in your chosen work of literature. Who is the protagonist (good guy) and antagonist (bad guy)?
Design Specification for the Story:
1. Has to include two or more characters (at least one of them has to be original)
2. Has to include 5 more scenes (at least one of them has to be original)
3. Has to include audio (some of it has to be original) and well as text
4. The story has to be at least 1 minute long
5. Has to link to the English story book (for example you could change the ending)
Design Specification for the Game
1. Has to link to the English story book (Think about the conflict in the book, how could this be turned into a game?
2. Has to include user instructions at the beginning
3. Has to include at least one game element (eg: score keeping, new levels, etc…)
4. Has to include audio
5. The game has to playable for at least 30 seconds.
DESIGN:
If you chose to create a story you need to come with 2 different ideas for your interactive story in the form of storyboards (use the template).
If you chose to create a game you need to come with 2 different ideas for your game in the form of flow diagrams.
PLAN:
Make a list of the resources you will use to create this project
Create your plan using the template provided (make sure you include a BETA stage for your game or story)
CREATE
Create and document your game or story following the timeline in your plan
EVALUATE
Evaluate your final project based on your testing. What stage of the design cycle did you enjoy the most? Which one was the easiest? Which one was the most challenging? How will you overcome these challenges next time?
Example:
The Story:
A story about a girl who has to move countries and schools and struggles to fit in and learn the new language. As soon as she learns the language and has made some friends she has to move schools again.
A Conflict:
• a character versus another character (eg: Girl vs. Fitting in with New Kids)
• a character versus him- or herself
• a character versus the community or society (eg: Girl vs. New Language)
• a character versus nature
• a character versus a higher power
• a character versus technology
Project Examples:
1. We see the girl at a new school and we can click on different things in her environment to see how she feels about them
2. Girl has to spell 5 foreign language words correctly to move on
3. Girl has to run away from bullies and make friends in a specific period of time
