Need some helpful ideas over this long break? This page will help get some ideas flowing to keep your kids busy!

Staff Spotlight

Each week we will keep you updated on a variety of different topics and teach your more about our staff and families. This week will be about Ms. Melissa!

I have been missing everyone from B.A.S.E. so much! I miss your smiling faces, your awesome parents, and your excited waves and greetings when you see me around the school. I have emailed a lot of you and am so happy you have been healthy and doing well with remote learning!

My family and I have been enjoying more time at home. We have watched a lot of movies and I have been doing a lot more cooking and baking. My husband, Jaco (pronounced YaKu) has been going to work. We have been growing herbs in the house and planted veggies that do ok in cold (radishes, carrots, beets) in our backyard garden. They are already growing well! I have become an expert at ordering groceries online and having them delivered! And Jacob, you all know my 5th grade son, has been busy making videos and playing in the backyard. He loves getting soaked by misters on the warmer afternoons! I also have a dog named Flint and a cat named Snow. They love me being home a lot!!

So, a little quiz... Many of you know my favorite place to visit is Hawaii, specifically the Big Island. I have included a photo I took there a couple months ago. There are some big, black rocks. What do you think they are?

I am looking forward to seeing you all as soon as possible!!

Take good care of yourselves and your families!!

Snow Ice Cream - Only 3 Ingredients!

What you will need:

  • 8-12 cups fresh, clean snow
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 300 mls sweetened condensed milk 10 oz

Instructions:

  1. Scoop clean, fresh snow into a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle vanilla over snow.
  3. Drizzle condensed milk over all.
  4. Fold all ingredients together, and stir until well-combined.
  5. If necessary, add more snow until you’re happy with the consistency of your ice cream.
  6. Scoop into a bowl, and enjoy!
  7. To freeze leftovers, pat remaining snow ice cream into a freezer-proof container with a lid.
  8. Optional: Can add sprinkles, toppings, etc. Have fun!

Homemade Bird Feeders

What you will need:

- pipe cleaners

- cheerios

- blueberries

- ribbon or raffia

Instructions:

1. I bent one end of each of the pipe cleaners so the fruit and cheerios wouldn’t slide off when the kids were threading them. The children then threaded their berries and cereal onto their pipe cleaners.

2. When the kids had their pipe cleaners loaded up, I twisted the ends together and bent their feeders into circles and hearts.

3. I tied the long length of raffia to each feeder and tied a bow.

4. Then we took them out to the yard and hung them from the trees.

Fruity Pebble Easter Eggs

What you will need:

- 6 cups Fruity Pebbles Cereal

- 1 10 oz. bag small marshmallows

- 4 Tbs. butter

- Pam cooking spray

Instructions:

1. Melt the butter in a pan on the stove.

2. Once the butter is melted, add the bag of small marshmallows and stir until melted down.

3. Remove from heat.

4. Add the Fruity Pebbles cereal and stir until all of the cereal is coated.

5. Spray the inside of each large plastic egg with Pam cooking spray.

6. Then spoon the cereal mixture into both sides of the egg and close the egg.

7. Place the filled plastic eggs in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to harden the cereal.

8. When ready to remove the Fruity Pebble eggs, slightly squeeze the egg so they come out easily.

9. Store in an airtight container until time to serve.

Dry Erase Dancing Figures

What you will need:

  • A glass plate, bowl, or picture frame
  • Dry erase marker
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. Draw a simple picture on the glass. A stick figure is a good one to start with
  2. Pour water onto the plate or into the bowl slowly to lift up the drawing
  3. Swirl the water around to make the picture dance and move

Cresent Bread Dough Bunnies

1 can (8 oz.) refrigerated crescent dough sheet

4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 Tbsp. milk

1 tsp. each pink and black decorating gel

Instructions:

1 - Heat oven to 375°F

2 - Unroll dough on lightly floured surface; roll into 12x9-inch rectangle. Cut into 10 bunny shapes, using lightly floured 4-inch cookie cutter and rerolling trimmings as necessary. Place, 2 inches apart, on baking sheet.

3 - Bake 8 to 10 min. or until lightly browned; cool completely.

4 - Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar and milk in small bowl with mixer until blended. Spoon into resealable plastic bag. Cut small piece off one bottom corner of bag; use to pipe cream cheese mixture onto cutouts, leaving 1/4-inch border around all sides.
