In my classroom I focus on four topics: building relationships, modeling and instilling a growth mindset, providing balanced instruction for my students, and using technology to broaden our horizons and increase the engagement in my lessons. Below are just some of the ways these things are accomplished in my classroom.
Building relationships within my classroom is imperative and necessary for us all to have a successful school year. I take pride in the closeness we feel as we grow and learn about each other. Often times, we end up feeling like family.
In my classroom we learn extensively about having a growth mindset. We spend the first two weeks of school, solely on this topic. Throughout the year students face numerous challenges where having a growth mindset is imperative and helpful as they begin to progress.
This year I am teaching ELA and social studies. Students are engaged in a variety of ways. We may be reading a novel, annotating a text or working online through a webquest. I pride myself on using a variety of teaching strategies to ensure all students are engaged and learning.
I am currently going through the Modern Classroom training. Therefore, many of my lessons are digital, and self-paced. Students are given instructional videos, practice, and mastery checks as part of this process.
