This page takes a look into the courses I took as part of Michigan State University's Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program. The courses focus on two concentrations: Special Education and Reading and Literacy. They are organized in chronological order. Each one contains the semester it was taken, the professor, and a brief summary of the course.

In this course we discussed the problems of theory and practice in education. We took a deep look at the foundations of education and reform, as well as, became familiar with the domains of educational inquiry.

Within this course we looked at children's books that were given awards, and what that actually meant. What was the purpose? What did the award mean? What were the qualifications?

In this course we looked at various resources and research based practices that influence effective reading assessments and instructional practices.
Fall 2019
Instructor: E. Boltz
Within this course we learned how to implement new pieces of technology to engage students. My focus was on implementing technology into my writing instruction and keeping my students engaged.

This course was compiled as an advanced surveyed course, to analyze children's and young adult literature. I was able to think deeply about myself as a reader, and as a reading teacher.
Spring 2020
Instructor: E. Cho
Within this course I was able to study special education more closely by looking at models and methods of collaboration with parents, teachers, and administrators. We also discussed how to effectively advocate for students with disabilities.
Spring 2020
Instructor: J. Certo
This course allowed me to analyze my strengths and weaknesses as a writing instructor. I was able to discover ways to help students develop their own writing in the areas of narrative, poetry, and exposition.
Summer 2020
Instructor: H. Long
This course gave me the background knowledge and foundation for understanding the legal and professional responsibilities of teachers in regards to special education. We also took a close look at characteristics of students with disabilities.

Within this course we looked at and studied at-risk youth and the theoretical basis for implementing programs to assist those that are at-risk. During this course I was able to study and look at theories that impact the students I work with everyday.

This course gave me the opportunity to create a digital portfolio by investigating and discovering how to do so with the use of technology. It also allowed me to showcase all of the work I have completed throughout my Masters program.
