Through the Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program at Michigan State University (MSU), I completed many projects, assignments, and essays. The concentration areas of Special Education and Reading and Literacy, allowed me to focus on certain content areas, therefore, giving me in depth content to study while pursuing my journey through the program. On this page you will find pieces of graduate work that I completed during my time at MSU. I have organized my work into three different categories: learning, technology, and reflection. I have chosen pieces for each category that I am the most proud of, and those that have shaped me into the educator I am today.

This work describes a topic I felt passionate about, and one that affects the at-risk youth of today. Within the study I completed you will see I highlight the problems of youth suicide and the high risk factors. I also delve deeper into a Crisis Management Team and how this implementation can decrease the numbers of suicidal youth.
In this statement I reflect on everything I had learned in this particular class on children's literature. I use the numerous resources required to establish my thesis and support my reasoning. I also was able to reflect on how I use literature in my own classroom and how I can improve in this area based on what I had learned.
During this project I had to choose a student I would study and reflect. I had to further research this student by studying their IEP, and come up with new goals for this student in regards to transitioning from elementary to middle school. This study allowed me to learn more about the special education process and writing an IEP.
This project consisted of myself and a partner working together to create a writing piece virtually. We chose to write a letter to our administration and school district, highlighting the lack of technology available to our students, the impact it has and how it is a disservice to our kids.
For this particular project I wanted to engage my students in the writing process. My students always seemed to despise writing time and never took it seriously, so I decided this would be my focus. I researched and came up with ways in which to use technology to engage my students in their writing.
This essay is one that I hold close to my heart. It was based on a genre project, and I chose to blog about something personal. The blog was to highlight our writing style and how we can use writing for more than just a subject to teach our students. This blog details my struggle with infertility, both personally and in my marriage.
This essay was derived from reading and studying numerous articles about the importance of children's literature, as well as, some of the misguided beliefs that are often presented. I reflect on the studies of Hintz and Tribunella, and the importance they placed on the definition of children's literature.
