This scholastic tournament includes five sections, three open sections based on grade, and two reserved sections based on rating.

OPEN SECTIONS
K-12 Open: Kindergarten through Grade 12; 5 Rounds; Time Control = Game 75 +5 second delay
K-6 Open: Kindergarten through Grade 6; 5 Rounds: Time Control = Game 75 +5 second delay
K-3 Open: Kindergarten through Grade 3; 7 Rounds; Time Control = Game 45 +5 second delay
RESERVE SECTIONS
K-12 U1200 Reserve: Kindergarten through Grade 12; 7 Rounds; Time Control = Game 45 +5 second delay
K-6 U800 Reserve: Kindergarten through Grade 6; 7 Rounds: Time Control = Game 45 +5 second delay.
The event was hosted at Dubuque's Grand River Center and Grand Harbor Resort and Water Park. Located next to Dubuque Iowa's "Ice Harbor" in the Grand River Center, this USCF Chess Magnet School.com (c) Junior Grand Prix Event was played May 11 and 12, 2013. Additional special chess events include a guest lecture Friday evening (May 16) and a Bughouse Tournament Saturday evening (May 17)
All tournament games are scheduled to be completed during the day, leaving the evening for entertainment. Whether you are competing in our Saturday evening bughouse tournament, enjoying the water park, or taking in the local attractions, there will be time enjoy the entire weekend with the family. Want more time? Request one or more byes and take the extra time to enjoy the historic Dubuque area.
Chess sets and score sheets will be provided. Chess clocks are available for those who did not have the equipment but a supply is limited.
UPDATE: Hotel accommodations were made available at the adjoining Grand Harbor Resort Hotel. We have been informed that the hotel has been sold out. You may try back with the hotel should any cancellations have occurred. The Grand Harbor Resort includes a premier indoor water park. An Ice Harbor Scholastic Chess Open hotel rate of $99 was made available.
The Tournament Hall is a generous 12,000 sq. ft. playing area that comfortably accommodates all players with an individual table for tournament play. A spacious hospitality room and concessions are available on site as well.
One-hundred individual trophies and 45 team plaques will be awarded for the open, reserve, and blitz chess events. First through tenth place will be awarded to individuals in each section along with six class trophies based on rating. Three sets of three team plaques will be awarded for each section based on the total score of the top three results by players from every club. (The USCF definition for clubs as used, which is not necessarily limited to the school you attend).
