Laser Cutter Box Project
Plans: Design a tab box on Inkscape and laser cut it out with no edges sticking out.
Materials: Cardboard, laser cutter, computer with Inkscape installed, computer with Corel Draw installed.
Tools Used: Laser cutter, Inkscape, Corel Draw
Workflow:
- Open Inkscape software
- Open document properties
- Set all default measurements to inches
- Set width to 30.00 inches and height to 20.00 inches
- Open Inkscape slideshow
- Follow slideshow to design box
- Save design as a plain svg with a file name so that you can recognize it
- Save file to Google Drive so that it can be accessed on other computers
- Download file onto computer with Corel Draw on it
- Load file into Corel Draw
- Select Print
- In the next window select Preferences
- Turn on Auto Focus
- Turn on Vector Settings
- Change thickness to 0.13 inches
- Click Done, Apply, then Ok
- Place your cardboard in the top left corner of laser cutter
- Ensure that machine and fans are on
- Click Print on the machine
- Once printing is done push the pieces out of the cardboard
- Hot glue the 2 top pieces together to create the top
- Assemble your box
