Applying to College
You've selected a few schools to apply to! Now comes the application process. Some colleges use an online application that can be used at multiple universities (such as the Common Application) & others still rely on their own institutional applications. Either way, many of the steps are the same. Nearly all NC Schools also accept applications through CFNC's application hub.
1. Know your standardized test scores
This includes your SAT & ACT scores, but also the PSAT/NMSQT, PLAN, EXPLORE, TOEFL, etc.
2. Research college options
Check the cost of books, communicate with college representatives, attend college fairs, & go on campus visits. The more information you can get, the more informed your decisions will be.
3. Determine college admissions plans
You should have 3 to 5 colleges selected to apply to. List which colleges have rolling admissions, traditional deadlines, early decision applications, and early action applications. Also check to see if there are any other deadlines for competitive programs or scholarships.
4. Apply for admission!
Apply to the school. Most applications require a transcript (you MUST complete a transcript release form before we can send your transcript to any school), ACT/SAT scores, letters of recommendation, & essays. It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is complete.
5. Make sure you complete all other application requirements
- Pay any application fees. If you qualify for a fee waiver, either enter in your code or mail in your paper waiver.
- Send your Test Scores (SAT and/or ACT)
- SAT scores can be sent through your College Board account.
- ACT scores must be submitted via ACT. If you need to create an account to send you March 2016 scores, see your counselor or Ms. Burgess!
- Make sure you have any letters of recommendation sent in. Not all applications require letters & you need to give recommenders at LEAST 2 weeks to write your letter. Counselors will ask you to complete a student profile before writing a letter.
- Send your SCHS Transcript
- Send through CFNC to any North Carolina school (including community colleges)
- Paper and electronic transcripts must be requested through THIS link. If you need to send a paper copy, it is the STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY to pick up their transcript from the front office and mail to the correct university.
- If you've taken any CCC&TI classes-- either at SCHS or at the college-- you must submit your official CCC&TI transcript before you the credits can be considered for transfer. You need to go to CCC&TI directly to get your transcript.
