Welcome to the Broadus Wood PTO!  The PTO is a non-profit organization of all parents, guardians, and staff at Broadus Wood and our mission is to foster the best educational experience possible for our students. We strive to do this through a variety of ways. We fund field trips and assemblies, hold after school and evening events, and purchase items to improve facilities and instruction. We also work to facilitate communication among staff and families and provide a forum to discuss long-term plans for the school.

Election Day Bake Sale

The PTO holds a public bake sale every Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 5th this year. The sale takes place during polling

hours, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Note that students have no classes on the Friday before or Monday and Tuesday.

Our bake sale is very popular - we run out of items every year. We need two groups of volunteers to make this work - those who do

the baking and those who help staff the tables. Bakers can drop off items Thursday, Friday, Monday or the day of the sale. Any baked goods

are welcome - cookies, breads, muffins, cakes, and cupcakes are just some of the items we've offered in the past. Items that are sugar free,

nut free, and gluten free are also quite popular.

More details can be found on the Event Page.

Muffin Wednesday

Every other Wednesday we ask parents to provide a light breakfast for staff as a way to let them know that we appreciate all of their hard work!  In the past, parents have brought in bagels and cream cheese, yogurt, muffins, donuts and coffee, and fresh fruit.   Please visit our website for more information and to sign up.

Al Carbon Fundraiser

Save the Date! Please join us on Thursday, October 10th at Al Carbon.  A portion of all the proceeds will be donated to the PTO.  Please be sure to mention BW PTO at check out and remember that all orders must be paid for IN-STORE to be eligible.

Still have paper BoxTops?  Please turn them in ASAP!  Despite BoxTops switching to digital collection, they will still be accepting paper ones for this fall's deadline.  BoxTops can be sent in a ziploc bag via Backpack Express.

Back to School Check List

The start of the year is a very busy time. We hope this list will be helpful in getting everyone off to a great start.
  1. Complete the student registration process through Parent Portal.
  2. Bookmark our webpage.
  3. Make sure you are on our e-mail list for announcements. Go to this link to join the group.
  4. Link your store loyalty/reward cards (Kroger, Harris Teeter, Giant & Target) to Broadus Wood Elementary. You must do this again even if you have linked your cards in the past. For more information go here.
  5. If you have an Amazon account, use AmazonSmile and choose the Broadus Wood PTO as your charity. We will receive a small percentage of every purchase.
  6. Download the BoxTops app and start scanning your receipts!
  7. Submit the supply fee, which this year is $25 per child. The fee can be paid through Backpack Express.

School Supplies

Once again, we have decided to purchase the school supplies and ask every family to pay a supply fee. Providing the supplies in this way not only saves time and money for you, it makes classroom management much easier for the teachers.
This year the supply fee will be $25 per child.  We need to emphasize that the PTO is not raising money through this effort. If everyone pays their fee, the PTO will still need to cover part of the cost. For that reason, it is very important that everyone return their supply fee as soon as possible. While school supplies are an expected expense, we understand that some of our families are facing challenging situations. Please do not hesitate to request a scholarship if that would be helpful at this time.
If you did not pay at Open House, you may send your payment in via Backpack Express.  Please fill out the form and send either cash or a check made out to the Broadus Wood PTO.  Then put the form and payment in a sealed envelope labeled “PTO School Supplies”

The PTO communicates with families in several ways. Make sure you are connected!

1.  Backpack Express. Although we and the school are trying to use electronic communications as much as possible, we will occasionally send home paper flyers. Our teachers put these in your child's folder/backpack. You may also return things like order forms in this manner.

2.  The Bobcat Bulletin. This is our weekly newsletter. To make sure you receive this, simply sign up at this link.

3.  BWESNewsOnline. This is our e-mail listserv, which we primarily use for reminders and other announcements. To sign up, click on this link.
