To answer the following questions, please read the directions on the syllabus carefully. It involves some google doc magic.
Question #1, Due Monday, January 29th:
In How to Read like a Professor, what does the author argue? Do you believe him? Using evidence from the text, discuss your answer.
Question should be (at least) one nice paragraph.
Question #2, Due Tuesday, February 5th:
Thinking about Anton Chekhov's The Bet please write one interesting question to analyze and the answer it. Please use evidence from the text to do so. Remember that we have come up with three cheating ways so far:
1. The quest: Was this a quest? (Or a quest for self-knowledge?)
2. The title: What is the significance of the title? (Was it ironic?)
3. The Characters: What did the character(s) learn or how did they change? (And who are you talking about?)
You can come up with something outside of those suggestions, but a good analysis question should not involve summary! And don't forget to put the assignment in your google docs folder.
Question #3, Due Thursday, February 14th:
Write three thesis statements. Two should be about stories we've read before - while the other can be about any story/movie/play.
Remember to look at our thesis checklist to see if it meets all the criteria - that can be found in the Class Notes
Question #4, Due Thursday, February 21st
Your collage on some aspect of "A Man Named Ziegler" by Hermann Hesse
Question #5, Due Thursday, March 7th:
Develop a thesis statement about Gabriel Garcia's "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World" and prove your statement by using at least two pieces of evidence from the texts (actual quotes!).
