If you would like to make up some missed points from late work or poor quizzes, here is what you can do:
Watch one of the movies listed below (or any other you clear with me before hand), and write a one page argument on why that movie should be considered existential.
Themes to look for:
-Does it deal with the absurd? (The silly attempt we make to find meaning in the world, though we know no meaning exists.)
-Does it question our purpose?
-Does it deal with choice and freedom?
...and many others from class. If you need a refresher, do a little research on the themes of the existentialists.
Also, spend some time comparing it to the stories we read in class:
What elements do the stories have in common? Where are they different?
Turn in the well-constructed paragraph by Thursday.
Possible movies:
-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-One flew over the cuckoo's nest
-Being John Malcovich
-Matrix
-Rosencratz and Gildenstern are Dead
-Bladerunner
-Fight Club
-I Heart Huckabees
-Stranger than Fiction
-and more!
