Comedy Writing - Portfolio and Reflection
This is the final project and a giant chunk of your grade.
Your final portfolio must include the following pieces, typed and edited, with your original workshop drafts stapled behind.
Portfolio
Commandments Parody (Laws of something)
Punny Article
Fictional Letter
Non-Fiction
Stand-Up Routine
Journals (Stapled together in order, see website)
Reflection (See below!)
Pieces should reflect feedback you received in workshops. Here are some questions to consider when editing:
-Where is it not funny? Do you need to include that part? If so, how can you make it funny – or at least shorter. If not, delete it!
-Does the story make sense? Remember, we can't substitute humor for plot. If the story doesn't make sense, no one cares.
-Where is it confusing or unclear?
-Are the tone and voice consistent? Are they appropriate?
-Is it written for a specific audience? Do your readers care? Will they get the jokes?
Reflection
(To make this very easy, use this form: Reflection for Comedy)
Finally, your reflection must be typed in REFLECTION FORMAT. It should be at least 3/4 a page, with 12pt font and double spacing. It should answer the following questions in paragraph form:
-Describe what makes a good comedy piece and how your writings demonstrated that?
-Which piece were you most proud of? Why?
-What was the hardest part of the class? What was the best part?
-What grade did you earn and why?
-How do the skills you learned and practiced in class apply to life beyond class? Think broadly about all the skills applied: writing, revising, workshopping, taking and giving criticisms, etc.
-What did you enjoy about the class?
-What would make the class better?
This is vital!
