DANCE 1:

Fall Semester; B7

Dance is a universal language, an expressive and vibrant art with the capacity to unify the physical, mental, social, emotional, aesthetic, and spiritual. This is a beginning level course which builds dance knowledge, vocabulary, skills in technique, and basic body control. Students will be able to define, demonstrate, and identify the elements that go into all dance styles. Emphasis will be placed on contemporary dance; other units include hip-hop, jazz, ballet, folk dances, etc.. Students will also study criticism and aesthetics. There are no pre-requisites so this is the perfect class to get you out of a desk, get your blood flowing, try something new, and interact with others!

CONTEMPORARY/DANCE 3 :

Full Year: B6

Boys and Girls; Grade 10, 11, 12

This intermediate-advanced contemporary dance team will focus in depth on basic principles that will improve the student’s technique, strength, flexibility, performance, stamina, and overall dance ability. The biggest push will be on taking prior skills learned and being able to create and compose using dance elements, improvisation, choreography forms, performance skills, and artistic expression. Students will also study criticism and aesthetics. This is a contemporary dance team although we often will do a dance in another genre like jazz or hip-hop. And as a team, there are some performance experiences and outside class commitments!

TDT/DANCE COMPANY:

Full Year: B5

This advanced level course is a jazz/contemporary performance team designed to study dance as a universal language. One that is expressive and vibrant, with the capacity to unify the physical, mental, social, spiritual, and emotional body. Dance Company is designed to broaden student perspective, artistic ability, and movement aesthetics; while improving in technique, improvisation, choreography, and performance. Through various projects over the year, we will work to connect dance with history, culture, life skills, and other curricular areas.

BALLROOM DANCE 1:

This dance class teaches the basics of four ballroom dances, Cha cha, Swing, Waltz, Foxtrot. Fall semester will focus on the American style dances. Classes taught will differ each semester based on the students in the class. All of the dances taught are designed to give students dance experience that they can share and enjoy on any social dance occasion. Emphasis is placed on leading and following techniques, as well as dance etiquette. No previous experience is required.

BALLROOM DANCE 2:

This dance class teaches the basics of several ballroom dances, Samba, Tango, and more. Spring semester will focus on the International style dances.Classes taught will differ each semester based on the students in the class. All of the dances taught are designed to give students dance experience that they can share and enjoy on any social dance occasion. Emphasis is placed on leading and following techniques, as well as dance etiquette. No previous experience is required.

BALLROOM TEAM:

The Timpanogos Ballroom Dance Team is a performance and competition based group that focuses on unity on and off the stage. Throughout the year students will compete in multiple events and perform in various assemblies and sporting events. Students will also participate in the Winter Dance Showcase and Spring Ballroom Concert. This class does have minimum GPA requirements and an audition is required to enroll.
