Wide-ranging topics addressed using ArcGIS Pro software.
Get started with ArcGIS Pro software! In these exercises, you will be introduced to the graphical user interface, learn the basics of working with map layers, create and edit your own data, and design "smart" databases.
This set of exercises centers of converting paper maps into digital images that can be overlaid in GIS. You will need a paper copy of a U.S. Geological Survey topographic map sheet and access to the wide-format scanner situated in the back of the lab. The exercises can be adapted to any paper map and/or any map that is already in digital format but lacks geographic reference.
The following instructions are focused on specific tasks not addressed in any of the previous exercises.
Instructions for a) interpretation of USGS topographic map sheets and hand-delineation of watershed boundaries and b) leveraging raster-based map algebra tools to automate the process of stream channel and watershed boundary generation using a digital elevation model.
