The AB Speech and Debate team relies on parents, alumni and friends of team for support throughout the year.
As of the 2023-24 school year, the AB Friends of Speech and Debate booster organization will assist with many of the items below. All parents are invited to join the group via their website.
Fundraising - supporting team fundraisers such as the candy bar sale, dine out nights and concessions sales.
Judging - we must bring adult judges to every tournament we attend based on an entry quota. We offer training both in person and online and ask that every parent consider this role if their student will be active on the team.
Driving- Some tournaments require that we use private vehicles to transport ourselves due to timing, logisitics or numbers of students. See the separate link for school mandated requirements of drivers.
Photos/publicity- Sending photos to the Beacon newspaper and/or writing a short summary of tournament results.
Social Events - providing food/materials for our annual cupcake social in December as well as our Potluck Team banquet in May.
Hosting the State Speech Championships - This is truly a team effort as we host the schools of the MSDL in April of 2024. We provide hospitality for students, judges, coaches, and tabroom staff for the day, as well as opening and closing the classroom wings, set up and clean up for the entire event. All Volunteers who will be in contact with students must be CORI cleared via an AB school (2023-24 is a CORI roll-over season - everyone must reapply!).
