At 509J, we are determined to create a strong career & college going culture in our high schools. MHS has embraced the State of Oregon’s ASPIRE program, which offers education, support, and mentoring opportunities for all students.
ASPIRE student supports may include 1:1 mentoring, group mentoring, and activities or events that focus on career exploration, career and college research, admissions applications, scholarships, and financial aid. If students choose to participate in the mentoring program, it is important to know that all ASPIRE staff and community mentors go through a background check and that confidentiality is required, as mentors will have access to student academic records. Mentoring will take place in person or in a combination of virtual, electronic communication following district guidelines. If you do NOT want your child to participate in the ASPIRE program, please contact College & Career Coordinator, Sam Loza, sloza@509j.net, to opt out of the ASPIRE program.
MHS Students have the opportunity to earn college credit at Central Oregon Community College for free. Students interested in taking college courses should connect with their counselor to forecast for the following academic year.
Students are more motivated and likely to succeed when they are able to form positive relationships with engaged role models. Mentors help students navigate processes related to their post secondary goals, whether that be college, trade school, apprenticeship, or military. With as little as 2 visits per academic quarter, you can make a significant impact on MHS graduates. Contact Samantha Loza, Future Center Coordinator, at sloza@509j.net for more information.
