The following is adapted from a seminar recording titled "The 8 Dimensions of Wellbeing" that you can watch here. While traditional wellness can feel like a checklist, well-being is a dynamic process of conscious choice. The dictionary defines wellness as "the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal." Alternatively, well-being is a dynamic, ever-evolving journey of making intentional choices that lead to a fulfilling life. Wellbeing is a continual process of change that requires you to actively participate, revisit your choices, and understand the interconnected nature of your life. To truly embrace this active journey, it helps to have a framework built on eight interconnected dimensions of our lives.
Before exploring the framework, it's crucial to understand a foundational concept: well-being is deeply personal. It is shaped by your unique identity and life experiences. What you need to feel fulfilled and balanced is not the same as what anyone else needs, and it will change throughout your own life. Our priorities, needs, and definitions of a good life evolve. What did well-being look like for you five years ago? How is it different today?
Let's explore each of these eight dimensions to understand what they mean and how they might show up in your own life. Click each circle below to learn more about the 8 dimensions of well-being.
