"The Prophecy and Leaving Hogwarts Again"

Cue No. 37 - The Prophecy and Leaving Hogwarts Again.mp4

A bed of quiet strings enters under the dialogue. Harry sits in Dumbledore’s office, still grasping the aftermath of what happened at the Ministry of Magic. The "James motif" echoing the Sorcerer's Stone mirror moment plays over the strings, satisfying two emotional beats; the death of his best friend and the loneliness Harry now feels. The discussion continues over the soft strings underneath, then shifts with the topic when Harry brings up the Prophecy.

Wand of the Phoenix plays in its full and original form, referencing the moment Harry’s wand chose him in Ollivander's in Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), and calling back to the very opening of this score. The Prophecy is an explanation to the riddle of Voldemort and Harry’s wands, minds, and journeys having a connection; this conversation is an epilogue of sorts in the answering of that 5-year-old question.

The music makes its way into a tired and grieving statement of Window to the Past. A shot of the moving stairs re-introduces us to a normal Hogwarts. It is back to a Hogwarts without Dolores Umbridge, but it does not feel the same. Harry’s thoughts are still on the death of his godfather. During his walk through the castle, he comes across Luna. Though still sad, Harry strikes up a conversation. A new version of music from "Gryffindor Wins The House Cup" plays, almost like a distant memory, signaling the end of a school year and reflecting on the journey of Harry and his friends. The theme’s conclusion is bittersweet after Luna expresses her condolences for Harry’s loss of Sirius.

On the shot of Luna’s shoes hanging from high above, her theme cuts in, expressing her near-carelessness for the things people do to tease her. Luna’s theme finishes playing out for the last time in this score. She skips away, hoping for pudding at the end of year feast.

"Gryffindor Wins" returns in the horns, this time even more heroic and nostalgic at the same time. Students are walking towards Hogsmeade Station, ready for the summer holidays. A small section of "Harry’s Wondrous World" transitions the music into a final statement of the Order of the Phoenix theme. This version is a fully matured statement that is heard over the students who took on the Department of Mysteries, truly solidifying Dumbledore’s Army as the new Order of the Phoenix. The last musical transition, taking place over the shot of the trio walking to the platform, moves into A Window to the Past. This is almost note for note the way it appears in Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) when Sirius says goodbye to Harry at the end of the film. This time, it’s Harry saying goodbye to Sirius.

Though things look bleak, Harry expresses to Ron and Hermione that they, unlike Voldemort, have something worth fighting for. This creates a strong sense of hope at the end of the film despite the tragedy that took place during the finale. As the camera pans up to the castle, Harry’s last words in the film sit with the audience, and a final tag of Hedwig’s Theme finishes the score on a triumphant note.
