"I Open at the Close"

DH 19 - I Open at the Close.mp4

At the moment Harry has a thought, violins and celesta play trills and flutter around, more or less to confirm that this is a good idea. Non-melodic high and sparkling instruments begin playing in the background, suggesting magical wonder we have not heard in a very long time. Percussion add to the texture with aleatoric sounds, anticipating the fruition of Harry's thought. The strings hold a chord as the words "I Open at the Close" appear on the Snitch after Harry holds it to his mouth.

Outside, Harry walks urgently towards Hermione. Pulsing is introduced with excited shivers in the violas and clarinets. The strings hold a note until the violins underscore Hermione saying she has also found something. A mysterious symbol is written into the pages of Beedle the Bard, Dumbledore's parting gift to Hermione. The Deathly Hallows Theme enters quietly and mysteriously for just a moment before the conversation moves on, for neither Harry nor Hermione know what the symbol means at this point.

The strings hold once more as Harry slowly brings up the idea of going to Godric's Hollow. There is a quiet 3-Note Motif in the harp, both suggesting the potential danger of visiting as well as the mysterious history surrounding that small English neighborhood. Hermione admits that, though it will be potentially risky, Godric's Hollow is a good idea and that they should go. The strings crescendo into another pulsing motion. The mission now has direction again, and they are headed to the most legendary unvisited place in the series.

The two of them stop, and so does the music. Hermione looks at Harry's hair and reminds him never to let her cut it again. Her theme plays with the same harmonies as it did long ago in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), this time more mature due to an english horn playing the solo instead of an oboe, and the statement being transposed a fifth lower. Their friendship has grown over the years - yet in some ways nothing has changed at all.
