Grades 3-5 3/15/2021

Good Morning,

Starting this week my office hours will be on Tuesday from 1:30-2 pm. Our Snap Ed program will take place this Thursday at 1:30-2 pm and will be our last one for now; please make every effort to attend that meeting. For this weeks assignment I would like for you to complete the following exercises for 2 minutes each; after doing the exercises check your pulse (video below explaining how to check pulse if you do not know how already). Wait two minutes before completing your next exercise to give your heart time to slow down a bit to get a more accurate reading.

Step one: Watch video above to locate your heart beat. BPM means how many times our hearts beat per minute.

Step two: Lay down flat on a clean place on the floor or couch for 1 minute. After laying down for that much time find your heartbeat and count how many times it beats for the next minute. (You will need a stop watch or a clock to determine 1 minute)

Step three: Walk in place for two minutes - Once finished quickly locate you heart beat and start counting while starting your one minute timer. Record this number on a piece of paper. (ex Walking in place= 90 BPM/ Beats per Minute)

Rest for 2 minutes

Step four: Complete Jumping jacks for one minute - Once finished locate your heart rate again and record once you get your BPM.

Rest for 2 minutes

Step five: Run in place for 2 minutes and check your BPM - Once again check your BPM and record on a piece of paper.

Step six: For full credit - Reply to this assignmnet telling me what exercise made your heart rate go up the highest (ex Jumping Jacks = 120 BPM) and briefly describe why your heart is beating faster when your body is doing more work.
