Real Talk Panelists
Kate Cushon – Librarian, John D. Archer Library, University of Regina; Member, University of Regina Faculty Association; Chair, Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) Librarians and Archivists Committee
Kate has been interested in labour activism and organizing longer than she has been a librarian, and since becoming a professional librarian she has consistently been involved in union activities locally, provincially, and nationally. She wants to make labour organizations radically inclusive, un-manageable, powerful, and effective. She knows from experience that librarians, archivists, and information workers of all stripes are uniquely positioned within the sphere of labour activism, and our skills and philosophies are powerful tools for organization, transformation, and victory.
Andrea Lemoins – Community Organizer/Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation
Andrea is an Asset Based Community Development practitioner looking to support Black communities in preserving their local memory institutions. She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Library and Information Science program at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and is a 2020 ALA Spectrum/ProQuest Scholar. Andrea lives in Philadelphia and works for the Free Library of Philadelphia with community engagement and was previously a union organizer. She writes poetry, collects typewriters, enjoys reading science fiction and walking around the city.
