Program Structure

Lightning Talks – The Lightning Talk is a “A Day in the Life”-themed 7 minute presentation + 3 minutes of questions. There will be two rounds of Lightning Talks with 5 presentations per round.

Reps from Professional Associations – Representatives from various professional associations will give a brief (5 minute) informative talk on the role of their organization, their role within the organization, how new librarians can get involved, and current projects.

Leadership Panel – The Leadership Panel is comprised of 5 information professionals at different stages in their careers who have demonstrated personal and professional leadership. We have reserved a total of 80 minutes for the panel discussion. In the first 45-50 minutes panelists will provide brief descriptions of themselves, their job, and their take on leadership, in general. The remainder of the discussion will be Q & A style. Questions will be derived from conference attendees on the day of the Symposium and from the registration process. Discussion topics may include getting started, career trajectory, leadership from all levels, and skill development.

Birds of a Feather – There will also be two 30 minute small group discussions on various topics including LIS education, leadership and issues in the profession. Participants will be asked to indicate which topics they are interested in during registration.
