Communications Director - Ian Herd

Ian Herd is a sophomore at La Plata High School. He is currently La Plata’s Student Liaison, MASC’s Parliamentarian, and the Student Member of the Board’s Communications Director. In his free time he enjoy playing piano for his school’s jazz band and marching band!

As Communications Director, Ian hopes he will be able to assist DeJuan in keeping students informed on the issues that affect them the most. Ian looks forward to helping DeJuan positively impact students’ lives as well as hear what they have to say throughout the year! He hopes that by the end of the year students will not only feel heard, but also feel that their Student Member of the Board advocated for the betterment of their education

Deputy Communications Director - Jake Burgess

Jake is a senior at McDonough High School. He has served as the class Treasurer and Vice President, and I currently serving as his school’s liasion and the Deputy Communications Director for the Charles County SMOB Advisory Council. Outside of SGA he likes to play soccer and tennis for his school and is the current president of the National Honor Society at McDonough.

Jake is excited to work with his fellow staff and classmates to ensure everyone has their voice. As liasion, he hopes to make his voice heard on and every issue regarding his school. After high school, he hopes to further his education at a four-year university, but is still undecided on his major.

Social Media Coordinator - Abena Poku

Abena is a junior at St. Charles High School. She is currently the class president for the class of 2021. Outside the advisory council she plays tennis and is active in school activities for the junior class.

Abena is looking forward to working with other members of the staff for a successful year.

Co-Historian - Sadé Broughton

Sadé is a senior at St.Charles High School. She is currently serving her third term as Vice President of her class and is an active member in her school’s Student Government Association. Outside of the advisory council she plays lacrosse, plays the cello, and serves as a youth leader at her church.

Sadé looks forward to working with the rest of the staff members and creating new bonds. Serving on the advisory council has been a dream of hers since she first learned of the council. She is very excited to work along with the other staff members to make a change within the Charles County Public School System as well as make memories to last a life time. After high school she plans on attending the United States Naval academy or enlisting and becoming a trauma surgeon.


Co-Historian - Celeste Goodell

Celeste is a senior at Thomas Stone High School. She is currently serving her second year as the historian of the Student Government Associtation. Outside of the advisory council she helps with tech for the drama department, swims on the swim team, and is an officer of the National Honor Society.

Celeste is excited about getting more involved with the CCPS schools and capturing the moments as the historian. She is going to be attending a 4 year college after she graduates.

Evaluations Coordinator - Brianna Albrittain

Brianna is optimistic about starting her high school career, as a freshman at La Plata High School this year. During the past school year, she served as Piccowaxen Middle School’s SGA President and was an Editor on the Yearbook Staff. She also enjoyed being a member of Piccowaxen’s National Junior Honor Society. Outside of her involvement with the SMOB Advisory Council, she volunteers with her Church and loves to write in her free time.

Brianna is excited to be a member on the Advisory Council and to work together to represent the CCPS students with other leaders. She aims to make her upcoming first school year at La Plata High School productive and stress-free. Brianna is thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of an impactful team. She wants to make sure that she is someone her fellow members can count on and she hopes that the Council will have a successful year!
