Broughs of Derbyshire, England
The lineages of the Broughs of Derbyshire, England, extends back to the 1500's and their descendants can be found in the British Isles, the United States, and Australia and New Zealand.
Many of the Brough families of Derbyshire--particularly those whose ancestors go back to the Broughs of Baslow and North Wingfield in the 1500's and 1600's--are related to the Broughs of Leek, Staffordshire. In fact, in the 1600's several Brough families of Staffordshire controlled substantial properties in Derbyshire, including Thomas Brough (1590-1654) of Windygates, Leek, Staffordshire, who stated in his Will of 1654 that he held "houses, buildings and lands" in Clowne and Fairfield, Derbyshire.
The ancestries of several Brough families of Derbyshire, are briefly listed below.

The Village of Brough, Derbyshire
Derbyshire also contains the village of Brough, located just east of the town of Castleton. In 1868, The National Gazatteer stated the following about Brough: "Brough [is] a township joined with Shatton, in the parish of Hope, hundred of High Peak, in the county of Derby, 3 miles to the east of Castleton. It is watered by two brooks, called the Bradwell and the Noe, which here unite. Near their junction is Brough Castle, the site of a Roman station, where coins, busts, and other Roman antiquities have been found. A castle is said to have stood here belonging to the Peverils." According to census records, in 1871 Brough village had 93 people, and in 1991 it had 144 people.
In March 2010, BFO members, Philip and Bebe Brough of Staffordshire, traveled to Brough and took the following photographs of the village:
