Weekly Snacks in the Kindergarten ~ This is what we do in the kindergarten. You may come up with your own rhythm.

Mondays ~ Walkabout Days ~ Snack brought from home

Tuesday ~ Carrot slices & Rice served with the options of Fairy Dust (Gimasio) and/or Fairy Water (Tamari or Coconut Aminos)

Wednesday ~ Sliced appoles & Mashed Sweet Potaos (yams) served with the options of apple sauce, cinnomon, and/or pecans

Thursday ~ Sliced Oranges or Pears & Bread served with the option of butter

Friday ~ Sesonal Soup Day served with rice crackers

Special Snack ~ Apple Sauce (great snack with roasted yams and pecans)

  • Peel, core, and slice apples into small chunks. Transfer to a large saucepan or pot.

  • Add in a bit of water, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce the heat to low.

  • Puree using a blender, food processor, or immersion blender for a smoother applesauce.

Rice ~ Make your favorite rice following directions. In the kindergarten we served white rice because it is easier to digest.

Gomasio Recipee ~

1 cup organic sesame seeds 1 tsp sea salt Gomasio bowl, or mortar and pestle spice grinder

Toast sesame seeds in small saute pan until they pop ("open sesame") and are brown. In gomasio bowl, grind salt until fine, then add sesame seeds and grind to desired consistency (typically 5 to 10 minutes). You may also place seeds insde a bag, then using a rolling pin to grind th seeds. Serve as a garnish on rice, millet, and vegetables. *Gaomasio bowls can be found in Asian markets or specialty kitchen shops.
