Get Active, Keep Healthy

Each year we have a timetabled ‘Get Active, Keep Healthy’ week .

During the week a variety of specialist sports coaches come into school to work with the children, teaching them aspects of their specialism. Pupils learn about healthy lunchboxes and how to make good food and drink choices. In addition, all classes cook a healthy meal or prepare healthy snacks and get to try new foods.

The emotional well being of children is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health allows children and young people to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults. Pupils take part in mindfulness activities such as meditation and yoga. Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to the present moment, using techniques like meditation, breathing and yoga. It helps children to become more aware of their thoughts and feelings so that, instead of being overwhelmed by them, they are better able to manage them.
