Intervention

Students learn in different ways and at different rates. At St Julian’s School we wish to support our students so that they become the best literacy and numeracy learners they can be. For some of our students there will be a need for a specific, additional support system to develop their learning in numeracy, literacy, or both. To assist us in meeting this particular need, we have directed a significant amount of our school SEG Grant and school budget to providing extra teaching support staff, (teachers and teaching assistants), who work as a team to identify students and target their specific needs.

We use a wide range of data to monitor and measure student progress, and details outlining these can be found in the Literacy and Numeracy Intervention Policy.

Types of numeracy & literacy interventions in St Julian's

Withdrawal

These sessions are held in Learning Support and delivered by a Level 3 teaching assistant. Students attend the lessons in pairs allowing for a very personalised approach.

Acceleration

These sessions are in classroom within the maths and English department , and are delivered by a numeracy or literacy intervention lead TA. Students attend the lessons in groups of six allowing for small group activities to build confidence and work collaboratively on improving essential skills.

How will I know if my child has been selected for literacy or numeracy intervention?

We contact all parents whose child has been selected, via a letter home. At the end of the 12 week programme, we also report home to inform you of improvements and continued areas of focus.

For more information, including an outline of the selection criteria, please refer to our school policy below.
